Remembrance is a choice. Remembering the darkness, we can continue to live in the light
In line with this commemoration, Union Romani Voice highlights in its statement the importance of teaching the history and the present of Roma
By incorporating our longstanding presence, contributions, and the challenges we are facing:
Dear Dignitaries and citizens alike are saying that we will not stand back where prejudice sets in:
That we will instead use our words and our deeds to ensure that no group or individual is failed now or in our future –
That we will continue to cherish living together for the good of all humankind.
Union Romani Voice is committed to that future –
Whether the times are good or challenging, as indeed they are now.
Hate is on the rise again on our continent.
Antisemitism, certainly –
And other forms of racism too, including anti-Romanian Roma hatred.
To honour the memory of the millions of innocent victims who perished during the Holocaust:
We have:
To remember and not forget.
To speak and not stay silent.
To act and not stand back.
Human rights must be respected.
The rule of law must hold firm.
Democracy must prevail.
For this, we must teach younger generations about the Holocaust.
Defying the tendency of time to erase the memories that are so important.
Our societies must remain vigilant and relearn the lessons of that history, over and over –
So now is our moment to do our duty!
